MYKEL BOARD, DIRTY DICK HOGS, THE SEX ZOMBIES, THE GRAVEYARD SCHOOL

Mykel Board (former front man of Artless, Maximum Rock & Roll columnist) will be doing a reading from his new novel "Even a daughter is better than nothing" which is a travel narrative about the time he spent in Mongolia. The Dirty Dick Hogs are from Texas and feature members of GG Allin and the Murder Junkies and They Hate Us. This will be a going away show for Pat Veil (Sex Zombies) who due to reasons we cannot discuss, will be fleeing the country. We will be featuring new art works by Horrible the Kid, Jupiter Arrives, Allie Dreads and Thatcher. Local pogo punkers The Graveyard School will be opening up. The show is at THE LOFT on Saturday July 24th and starts at 9pm. It's $7 bones at the door and BYOB. Be where its at or stay at home and fuck your television.

TAINTED

By Rene Morales

I use to love it
I loved it so much
Every morning waking up with butterflies
The click clack sound over cracks in the sidewalk
A couple of quick slides
In and out of banked driveways
Dodging parked cars and pedestrians

I use to love it
Rocking out to the punk tunes
Launch Ramps on Saturdays
Public school hand ball courts
Just to get a quick wall ride
Man, those were the days

I use to love it
Making boards for the bros
Shaping wood into who knows
The smell of lacquer and wood chips
New designs and ideas would flow

I use to love it
Drained out pools
Laughing at fools
Going for the light
Tranny was alright
Grinds for life

Then “it” came
Squeezing for more
Like blood from a stone
Never satisfied, always hungry
Wanting
The gimmie gimmies
The “I’m down for bros”
The out stretched hands always wanting

I gave all that I could
I gave my soul
Friends with knives
All smiles no cries
Take all you want and take some more

I use to love it
I loved it so much
What happened?
We were all the same once
We were all one big crew

I hear the sound again
Click clack, click clack
Last run
Last run

Ben Davis Comic

Here's a comic that I illustrated for the Ben Davis Clothing Brand back in 2007. I'm super stoked to have been selected for this project since I've been repping their gear since I was a kid. Check out their line of street wear and classic work gear here.

RIP Jay Reatard 1980-2010

I moved out to San Diego with nothing but a suit case and some cans of spray paint trying to out run the gloom of a rapidly pursuing heartache. I was listening to a ton of Jay Reatard at the time. I got a chance to see him play at the Ken Club shortly after I arrived. The show was amazing and I went ape shit during the song "My Shadow" resulting in the bouncer putting me in a headlock and removing me from the dance floor. I guess dancing and actually having a good time when a band plays is not kosher amongst the uber elite California "Punk" scene. Oh well, guess you got a taste of New Jersey mother fuckers. Needless to say, Jay Reatard's music helped me through a really dark time in my life. I'm pretty bummed that I won't have the pleasure of discovering a new EP of his every other week like I used to since he was that fucking prolific. RIP Jay Reatard. You will be missed but never forgotten.

MY SHADOW

If this is the way it's going to be
Then I am so sure
That life is lost
It's only thrill and it's tomorrow

I can't see your face
cause I'm a looking at
I can't see your face
cause I'm a looking at you

The way you walk
The way you step on through
The way you do
All the things you do
The way you walk
The way you step on through
I can't tell truth

My shadow
My shadow
My shadow
My shadow is stuck

It's like the darkness
All you ever seem to be
And nightmares only
make you a memory

I can't see your face
cause I'm a looking at
I can't see your face
cause I'm a looking at you

The way you walk
The way you step on through
The way you do
All the things you do
The way you walk
The way you step on through
I can't tell truth

My shadow
My shadow
My shadow
My shadow is stuck

I don't feel too well
I don't feel too well
And I don't really care
Cause I don't feel too well
Cause I'm a looking at you!
